Nothing beats the look and feel of a handcrafted item. It's the feeling that there's something intimately unique about what went into that very thing you hold in your hands.
As an accomplished knitter I started hand spinning wool about 15 years ago and began hand dyeing wool shortly thereafter. I then began to demonstrate how wool would have been spun and dyed in the 1700's at a local living history museum and was commissioned to sell my hand spun and knit items in the museum store.
Being able to knit hats or mittens from wool that I've spun means that every part has gone through my hands from the time the wool was sheared from the sheep. They have definitely been made from scratch! I LOVE the thought of that!
Now, we travel and live in a 5th wheel camper so I spin yarn up, then knit during the long stretches of time in the truck.
Opening an Internet shop allowed people from anywhere to purchase my handmade items.
My husband and I work at Lambs Ears Knits as a team and I certainly could not do all this without him.
Enjoy the warmth!
