Wool mittens knit with unique yellow gold wool with pink heather adds interest. These are nice!
I knit these on three knitting needles, so they don't have a seam, and the rolled cuff adds a modern twist to an old-fashioned favorite. These mittens fit medium (most) women's hands.
Mittens have been hand knit by me from 90% Merino wool and 10% mohair. The wool used for these mittens is processed at a small, family run woolen mill in Alberta, Canada. This mill is environmentally responsible and produces quality products the old-fashioned way. The wool is processed naturally and is non-carbonized (not heated to extremely high temperatures to destroy plant matter). Much of the equipment the wool is spun on at these mills dates back to the 1800's. The yarn is mule spun, a process developed during the last half of the eighteenth century. Mule spinning gives yarns characteristics all their own. Mule spun yarns are drawn, spun, relaxed, then wound about 6 feet at a time. The draw allows for a more uniform product, and the relaxation of the tension allows the yarn to fluff. Many experts consider the mule to make the very highest quality of handwork yarns.
Wool: hand wash, roll in a towel and lay on a heater register to dry.
This mitten fits my hand snugly, so these will fit those with hands that measure about:
7" (19.05 cm) around the knuckles
7 " (17.78 cm) from tip of middle finger to base of the palm of your hand
2' (5.08 cm) length of inside of thumb
Nothing is more comforting or appreciated than a personally handmade hat, pair of hand knit mittens or fingerless gloves. They are always so warm, comfortable and made with care. Try a hat or a pair of mittens for yourself or as a gift & I'm sure you will be back! I use high quality yarn from small farms whenever I can.
